General Balance, a healthy habit to
maintain a balanced lifestyle.
General Balance is committed to the health of people around the world. We have researched and developed a line of dietary supplements that contain the necessary nutrients that help to support overall health.
1. Intestinal Health
The plants we eat pass through the stomach, small intestine, large intestine and the colon. Food is digested in the stomach and most of it is absorbed in the small intestine. It is then further broken down by the gut bacteria in the large intestines and excreted. When these functions occur smoothly, our bodies stay healthy.
[Function of the Small Intestines] The main function of the small intestine is to digest and absorb the nutrients necessary for the body.
[Function of the Large Intestines] To absorb the water in the digested food and excrete waste.
2. Why Intestinal Health Is Important
More than 100 billion microorganisms live in the human intestines. Some of these microorganisms, “good” bacteria, help break down nutrients or synthesize vitamins to help the intestines absorb them. However, there are also other microorganisms, “bad” bacteria, that inhibit the function of the “good” bacteria. To maintain a healthy intestinal system the ratio of “good” bacteria and “bad” bacteria is extremely important.
3. Causes for Decreased Intestinal Health
Major causes for decreased intestinal health include poor eating habits and stress. Instant foods, stimulating (spicy) foods, fatty foods as well as antibiotics, alcohol, smoking, inconsistent mealtimes and stress are causes. “Bad” bacteria threaten the stable establishment of “good” bacteria in the intestines and may produce toxic substances through nutrients. These toxic substances are absorbed by the large intestines and are dangerous to overall health.
